The Heinävesi canal route from Savonlinna to Kuopio is one of the prettiest water routes in Finland. The route travels through national landscapes and has served professional and leisure traffic ever since the late 19th century. The route that connects lake Kallavesi to the middle Saimaa has two channels without locks, which have been dug with hard work in difficult terrain. The most recent of the lock channels on the route, the Kerma channel had its 100th anniversary last year.
